About the Author

For several years, Linda Martin Gilmore has been telling the stories of the early settlers, storekeepers, mill owners, church pastors, teachers and business owners who lived in Perry County for the first two hundred years. She has interviewed countless current and former residents, examined numbers of artifacts, scanned a large number of vintage photographs, and delved into original documents. The result: Linda has published several books of local history in Perry County and surrounding counties in Pennsylvania.

Having grown up on the eastern edge of the Appalachian Mountains in Pennsylvania, Linda began a lifelong career in education with a B.S. in secondary education-history from Shippensburg State College (now Shippensburg University) and a M. Ed. in reading from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College). In 1991, she joined the faculty of the Developmental Education Department of Carroll Community College in Westminster, Maryland, and taught reading and basic English skills for nineteen years before retiring in 2010.

Now living near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Linda and her husband of more than forty years, Stanley Gilmore, enjoy their family of three children, their spouses, and eight grandchildren.
